The Internet’s quiet keyboardist delights in a fashion only he can.

It’s difficult to notice Matt Martians. The Internet’s co-founding member and keyboardist keeps a low profile, with bandmates Syd and Steve Lacy often taking center stage utilizing their voice and sex appeal.

While other members of The Internet have achieved sizable fan bases as solo artists, Martians has crafted a niche following. His 2017 debut, The Drum Chord Theory, is a lovable energetic project that focuses on love from a whimsical perspective. Its upbeat nature is complemented by tracks like “Southern Isolation”, which showcases Martians talent as a producer and composure.

Since then, Martians’ albums have featured the same creative flair with varying degrees of seriousness. Lyrically, he presents his life as he experiences it — detailing a range of emotions from love, heartbreak, and personal realizations that come over time.

Earlier this month, Martians returned after a three-year hiatus with Matt’s Missing. The ten-track album finds Martians embracing his roots, with chord progressions and drum loops that instantly captivate the ear. Though Martians lacks natural singing talent, he uses his voice wisely to add a level of texture to his tracks amplifies the emotion of each track. His cleaver production finds space for the beat and his voice to individually, while coexisting harmoniously.

Martians’ sincerity oozes through on Matt’s Missing. Since the Odd Future days, he has delighted through his consistency in making music that seems unique to him. With every release, he encourages us to fully embrace the distinct characteristics that represent our authentic self. Once more, Matt Martians encourages us to live and find comfort/enjoyment in our truth, regardless of where it takes us or who notices.
